The Beaumont track hosted its third race meeting in ten days on Tuesday, and the Newcastle Jockey Club inner track again came through with flying colours. There was dram in the opening event, the 2100 metre Davali Yearlings @ Classic Class 1 and Maiden Plate. Kris Lees import Golden Smile, the $2.50 second favourite, was taken to the lead soon after the start by Andrew Gibbons and travelled unchallenged until inside the 200-metre mark. At that point the $10 chance Brilliant Knights jockey Luke Rolls attempted a rails run inside Golden Smile however the leader appeared to shift towards the rail and check Brilliant Knight. The latter then came around Golden Smile and made a late dash to go down by less than half a length. Rolls on returning to scale immediately fired in a protest which was subsequently upheld by stewards.
It was a great result for Port Macquarie trainer and former jockey Cassandra Schmidt as the gelding only joined her stable last month. Brilliant Knight was starting for the second time for his new trainer after a close second at Grafton on November 30.
Country trainers won four of the seven races with Scone mentor Peter Blooomfield saddling up the longest priced winner of the meeting $13 chance Leica Queen in the 1350 metre Sharp Office Country Boosted Maiden Handicap, the filly had been well beaten by sizeable margins in her past four country starts however after being last out of the barriers in Tuesday the 3 year old was allowed to make ground around the home turn. She gathered in the leaders down the straight to win by a length.
Another Scone trainer Rod Northam one of NSW most successful country trainers combined by his apprentice Chelsea Hillier to win the 1150 metre New Era Technology Country Boosted Benchmark 66 Handicap with 5-year-old mare Move She Can.
Muswellbrook based trainer Tim McIntosh 4-year-old mare Ivy Diva repeated her Narromine win of two weeks earlier when she stormed home to win the 1350 metre New Zealand Bloodstock – Karaka 100 Years Benchmark 58 Handicap.
The Gai Waterhouse- Adrian Bott stable sent 3-year-old filly Siebert to Newcastle, and she was well backed before a narrow win in the 1150 metre Spartan Central Coast Maiden Plate.
Nathan Doyle was the only Newcastle trainer to saddle up a winer on the day. His 3-year-old Heroic Deed was an impressive winner on debut in the 1150 metre The Adviser Collective Maiden Plate.
The NJC’s final race day of 2025 will be the annual Boxing Day Races to be held on Friday 26 December. The day will be packed full of energy with DJ’s trackside and Hot Dub Time Machine takes over the betting ring after the last.
