In form Newcastle apprentice William Stanley rode his fifth winner in twelve days when successful on gallopers for Newcastles Hunter Hall of Famer trainers Kris Lees and Paul Perry at Thursdays Newcastle Jockey Club race meeting. Backing up from success at Warwick Farm aboard Mark Minervini’s Hanau the previous day.
Stanley kicked off the day with a rail hugging ride on his boss Kris Lees 3-year-old filly TWOEXCEL in The 900 metre Dailey Family Funerals Maiden Plate. The filly was first up from a spell, but she won a recent Wyong trial unextended and had the advantage of the rail’s barrier. After a moderate begining Stanley allowed the filly to rail up inside the leader and she raced clear to win by just over a length.
The winner was well fancied and in a good betting race Twoexcel was a solid $5.00 third favourite. Stanley rounded of the day when he brought Paul Perry’s 10-year-old gelding General Soho from near last before the home turn down the outside of the field to win the final event the 1600 metre The Prince of Merewether Benchmark 68 Handicap by half a length. It was General Sohos 67th start for 11 wins and 16 placings for prizemoney of $46,740. Stanley transferred from Orange to Newcastle in late 2024 looking for more opportunities. He has ridden 14 winners during his career including 25 runners this season.
