Gary Harley – Preview – 02.03.24

Race 1 – TAB APP Super 2YO Maiden Plate 900m

Capital Dancer is the only horse that has had a start and she finished last in a Black Type race at Randwick on February 10. She is quick and won two trials before that run.

Happy Cappy showed speed to win a Gosford trial under no pressure while Petticoat was impressive in a trial win at Grafton.

Selections:       7- Capital Dancer                    3- Happy Cappy                       8- Petticoat

Race 2 – Urban Angus 3yo & Up Maiden Handicap 900m

Squamish bolted in with a recent Wyong trial and he broke a minute for the 1000 metres. He has barrier one over the short course and is pretty quick.

Dilution was narrowly beaten on debut here in September and he draws okay.

Ivy’s Way ran on well when placed here on debut.

Selections:        4- Squamish                 1- Dilution                    7- Ivy’s Way

Race 3 – Dillion & Sons Real Estate Provincial Benchmark 68 Handicap 900m

Zanzibar Gem is a back marker but can finish strongly. She has a good first up record and the long straight is ideal. The mare is a metropolitan winner and she has had two recent trials.

Akaka Falls is first up but he has a good fresh record and his form last preparation was good enough.

Omar is very consistent and should sprint well fresh.

Selections:       5- Zanzibar Gem                     2- Akaka Falls              4- Omar

Race 4 – Lovey’s Grocers IGA Midway Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1850m

Wymark will appreciate the 1850 meters after a solid win over the mile here last start. He is bred to stay and has a good record on the Newcastle track. The 3kg allowance for Zac Wadick is gold.

Dunaloce has had four Newcastle starts for a win and three placings and runs the trip.

Ever Was is on a quick backup but is racing well.

Selections:       5- Wymark                   7- Dunaloce                 3- Ever Was

Race 5 – Cangon Stud Farm Maiden Handicap 1600m

Ioane was only beaten 1.5 lengths first up on the Kensington track on February 14. He is bred on New Zealand staying lines so the 1600 meters should not be a problem. The barrier is tricky but Alysha Collett will ride.

Rose Gold had no luck when beaten two lengths at Nowra last start and she will appreciate the longer trip, while Lucilago drops in class.

Selections:        2- Ioane           13- Rose Gold 9- Lucilago

Race 6 – Bell River Thoroughbreds Maiden Handicap 1300m

Hellbent On You turned in an eye-catching performance on this track last start. She walked out of the barrier three lengths behind the field and after being last on the turn stormed home to be beaten a nose. Her previous run at Kembla was similar, and she has been placed at Canterbury.

Yayoi got badly held up when fourth at Canterbury on debut but has a horror draw.

Ace’s In Bloom was narrowly beaten on this track two weeks back.

Selections:       6- Hellbent On You                  10- Yayoi                     7- Ace’s In Bloom

Race 7 – Settlers Arms Dungog Cup Class 1 Handicap 1300m

Tender Streak was a short-priced favourite first up at Hawkesbury recently but was slowly away and never comfortable. Before a spell her four starts resulted in a win and three seconds on provincial tracks.

Capital Heart has city placings and is fitter third up, while  Kenyada has a good record.

Selections:       9- Tender Streak           1- Capital Heart           4- Kenyada

Race 8 – Polytrack Provincial-Midway Championship Qualifier 1400m

Tavi Time is very talented with five wins and a second from eight starts. He is on his home track and will be strong late in the race.

Ausbred Flirt is a smart mare with group form, and she has won at Newcastle.

Nosey Parker has a good record on this track.

Selections:       1- Tavi Time                 4- Ausbred Flirt                         2- Nosey Parker
