Gary Harley – Preview – 30.05.23

Race 1 – Newcastle & Hunter Racing Hall Of Fame Provincial Maiden Plate 900m

Nathan Doyle has two fillies in this race, and both should run well. Nightcapped missed the start in a Newcastle trial but cruised home to win impressively. Barrier one is gold, and a forward showing is expected.

Stablemate, Pridefilly won a trial at Muswellbrook and is pretty quick.

Iconic Story was beaten 2 ¾ lengths at Gosford in October.

Selections:        9- Nightcapped                        5- Pridefilly                   2- Iconic Story

Race 2 – Jennings Print Maiden Handicap 1300m

Asva is a dual acceptor, but this is the easier race. He has started six times for five placings, and has finished close up at Kembla, Wyong, Randwick and Canterbury – and he races well on all surfaces. Asva gets back but he is strong late and will appreciate the long run in.

Futtaim is on debut after two nice trials, and Align The Planets resumes after trialing twice recently.

Selections:        1- Asva             2- Futtaim                    4- Align The Planets

Race 3 – Ascend Sales Trophies Maiden Plate 1500m

Asva is also an acceptor for this race, and will start favorite if he runs here. He has been a prolific placegetter, and with Chad Schofield aboard and barrier two he has a great chance if he starts in this race.

Galactic Legend has been placed in his past two starts at Kembla and has drawn well, while Okataina just missed first up.

Selections:        1- Asva             4- Galactic Legend                   6- Okataina

Race 4 – ANZ Bloodstock News F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap 1250m

Mount Warning is a lightly raced, talented filly. She posted fast time when a first up Gosford winner on Anzac Day. Last start at Warwick Farm she came from last to finish fourth in a strong race. The longer trip and spacious track are ideal.

Sirens Star was a Canterbury winner in November, and she has been placed in her last two starts. Kobenhavn has a place chance.

Selections:        5- Mount Warning                    2- Sirens Star               7- Kobenhavn

Race 5- National Horse Transport Midway 3yo Maiden Plate 1400m

Gold Pattern came from last when fifth at Wyong first up on May 11. She was placed on the Beaumont track in November, and this is a drop in class.

Merchant Legend has McEvoy on top and he will improve on a midfield Kembla effort.

Occhiata was placed on the Beaumont track and this course last preparation.

Selections:        7- Gold Pattern            4- Merchant Legend     10- Occhiata

Race 6- Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap 1400m

Super has won five races on this track, and he will appreciate the longer trip. Aaron Bullock will ride him for the first time, and he is well weighted. He gets back but is a strong finisher.

Rocstar Boy is ready to win after two fast finishing efforts at his last two starts. He races well on this track. Catapult had no luck on this track recently.

Selections:        8- Super                      2- Rocstar Boy             11- Catapult

Race 7- TAB Venue Mode CG&E Benchmark 64 Handicap 1250m

Unravel is a smart three-year-old with a good record. He has won two from three in the country and was run down and narrowly beaten at Rosehill in November. He draws well and will be hard to beat.

Oakfield Mahogany races well second up and hit the line hard first up.

Barradas is third up after two creditable performances.

Selections:        6- Unravel        9- Oakfield Mahogany             2- Barradas

Race 8 – Events @ Newcastle Racecourse Benchmark 64 Handicap 1600m

Mistress has not drawn well but is in top form. She came from well back when a close second at Gosford on Anzac Day, and then she raced away to win easily at Scone last start.

Aldeenaary failed at Scone last start when heavily backed and he can improve.

Show Me Your Love is a last start Tamworth winner.

Selections: 8- Mistress 2- Aldeenaary  4- Show Me Your Love
