In a wave of compassion and support, Newcastle Racecourse turned Pink for its annual Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF) Pink Race Day supported by Clubs in the Community on Saturday, 12 July.
The event, which has become a beloved tradition of the Newcastle racing calendar and is now in its sixteenth year, saw a capacity crowd fill the Trackside Marquee and overflow across all Newcastle Racecourse venues on Saturday.
Attending on the day, HBCF President Cath Adams expressed the importance of the event and the funds it helps to raise for those currently undergoing treatment and their families.
“We are really excited and grateful to be here today. The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation is a local charity set up by local people, and our aim is to provide support to people that are experiencing breast cancer and their treatment and the aftermath,” said Cath Adams.
The charity had a goal to break last year’s fundraising record of more than $143,000 and were excited to announce after the event that they did just that.
“We have tallied our numbers and can announce the total raised has come in at more than $152,500. The HBCF are so happy with this result, and this will make a huge impact in helping us to deliver our services.”
In a demonstration of the impact the HBCF’s work can have for breast cancer sufferers, this year the Newcastle Racecourse teamed with them to donate five exclusive igloo experiences to local families currently navigating their breast cancer journey. These private spaces created an unforgettable day at the races and a moment of joy and respite.
Everywhere racegoers ventured there were unique activations and entertainment experiences that united them in their commitment to the cause. From a Myer Pamper Station with Magnetic Shots polaroid images and sleek and sophisticated Kloster BMWs in the Betting Ring to the energy of DJ Fuel and James Spy Sax on the Ascot Lawn.
Patrons were also left with a day to remember thanks to ‘Let’s Get The Surprise Party Started’, a Pink Tribute Act on the Courtyard Lawn after the last race.
Speaking on behalf of the Racecourse, CEO Duane Dowell gave credit to the Racecourse team for their efforts in bringing together such a unique and special
event.
“The team has done an incredible job in working together with HBCF volunteers and staff to create such a memorable day for our patrons,” he said.
“This event is about so much more than racing. It is about helping to bring the community together to support families during one of the toughest times in their lives. We hope the lasting memories will stay with those who attended, and the
funds raised for the HBCF will make a significant difference for the future of those impacted by Breast Cancer.”
